I never pay over time. In fact, if you do (and some people may need to for various reasons), you should not be in the miles credit card game. The simple reason is that miles/points credit cards tend to have the highest APRs around. Your 3-5% in cashback in the form of points isn’t a great deal if you are paying a 20% APR.

But that won’t stop me from taking advantage of this offer that American Express targeted me for (both in my online account and by snail mail) on my Gold card. They are giving me 10,000 Membership Rewards points (worth $100 at a minimum and in reality more like $200) just to enroll in their Pay Over Time feature for purchases over $100.  I went through the link on my AmericanExpress.com profile, applied and was approved.  I’ll get the 10,000 MR points for basically zero effort and certainly zero cost on my side.

Check your online account and your mailbox for any Amex “Charge”cards you have to see if you’re targeted.
