Tonight, I’m flying to Austin, Texas for 5 days at SXSW. Flights were insane, of course, but I still made the trip free – using ~16,000 Chase UR points to fly Southwest outbound and back on AA for ~15,000 Citi Thank You points (redeemed at 1.6 cents per point since I have the Citi Prestige card). I’m then staying next door to the convention center for 5 nights using 140,000 Marriott Rewards points (vs a cash rate of about $4,000).
I like free trips 🙂
But free trip aside, there’s lots going on for us Miles and Points fans at SXSW this Friday and Saturday.
Friday: Join me and Richard Kerr of Travel Hacking 101 for a Happy Hour at 5:30 CST. RSVP for details.
Saturday: The main event. Our workshop, Miles and Points: A Primer, is on at 3:30pm CST. Hopefully you already registered because all 103 spots are spoken for. There will be walk-ins accepted at the start time if people no-show. After the workshop, we’ll stay for drinks and more conversation at a nearby bar.
Facebook Live: I’ll be streaming the session (maybe the whole thing, maybe just the Q & A) on the MilesTalk Facebook page. Be ready at 3:30 CST. If you have “liked” the page you will get a notification when the live stream starts.
