Advice on Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfers
Please note that transfer times can vary. Transfers noted as “Instant” should be Instant unless there is an issue like a name mismatch. If an Instant Transfer doesn’t process instantly, sign out of the Loyalty account and sign back in.
For all non-instant transfers, the stated time is based on a mix of our own data points and publicly available data points but time may vary.
If you are trying to book an award and the transfer is not instant, it’s always worth calling the airline to see if they can hold the award inventory while you transfer your points as it’s quite possible that the inventory will no longer be there once your points appear.
As bonus, Chase recently started listing expected transfer times right inside the Ultimate Rewards transfer box for each partner so you can double check.
Best Uses of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points
This is covered extensively in the Ultimate Rewards Points Guide, but one of my favorite uses by far is for transfers to Hyatt’s World of Hyatt program.
I can generally get greater than a 2 cent per point yield (which, if you earned 3X points on travel and dining on a Chase Sapphire Reserve amounts to a 6% rebate on spend) by redeeming for Hyatt hotels and their partner hotels like the Ventana Big Sur.
Of course, there are great transfer partners as well, like British Airways Avios to redeem on short-haul Oneworld partner flights using their distance-based award chart. Many will also transfer to United simply because they already have a United MileagePlus balance from flying.
Virgin Atlantic has a few sweet spots, like Delta One (Business Class) awards for far less than you would pay using Delta SkyMiles, or to fly ANA to Japan in First Class.
