There are three credit cards that come with built-in food delivery credits. Many people have those cards, yet never use the credits during normal times. This is your reminder that you have the credits, and you should use them.

If you don’t have one of these cards, perhaps the prospect of being home for a while changes the math on the annual fees for you. Perhaps, perhaps not…

The three credit cards that offer food delivery credits are:

Chase Sapphire Reserve:

In partnership with DoorDash, you’ll get:

  • $60 in DoorDash credits each year in 2020 and 2021.
  • Free DashPass to get free DoorDash deliveries at select restaurants with $12 or more in your order and decreased service charges. Valid from now through the end of Dec 2021 or for a minimum of one year when activated any time before then.

With an annual fee of $550, it’s not a reason to rush out and get the card, but if you have it, don’t forget to use it! And if you’ve started to use DoorDash when you had not previously, it may change the card’s value proposition.

DoorDash also sent an email this week stating that there is “priority” in -app support for Chase cardmembers, but I haven’t tried that myself to advise on if it’s a real benefit or not.

Amex Gold Card

The American Express Gold Card comes with $10 in monthly credits which can be used at Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and most Shake Shack locations. (Rates and Fees) Activation required; Terms apply.

GrubHub has pretty good nationwide coverage so I think that, for most people, this will be the easiest one to use. Again, it’s $10 a month compared to a $250 annual fee, so it’s not the reason to get the card, but it’s a pretty good reason to use the benefit if you have it and, if you find yourself now using GrubHub and can see yourself continuing to do so, it may change the value proposition on the card for you.

I had to check and with everything going on now, I hadn’t used mine yet this month. So, we just ordered a pizza 🙂  Seamless/Grubhub are also running various specials during this trying time. Right now, many are $10 off $30 at dinner time.

This is probably a good time to remind you that when I wrote my book, I included a worksheet on how to know if the annual fee of any particular credit card is worth it in your situation.

Amex Platinum

You’d never get this card just for the dining credits. In fact, they are not technically even dining credits, but the $15 monthly Uber credit (which gets bumped to $35 in December) that comes with the Amex Platinum card can be used for Uber Eats. (Rates and Fees). Activation required; Terms apply.

Uber Eats is currently running $0 delivery fee specials to help small restaurants get business.

Once enrolled in the dining credit offer on the Amex website, you’ll be able to use the credits which are auto-deposited to your Uber account.

Again, this may be a good time to check and see if you’ve used your credits yet this month. It’s a great time to support your local restaurants and delivery drivers.
