Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi – Award Availability

Priced at 120,000 Hilton Honors points per night, with the additional option to use the free weekend night certificates that can be earned from premium Hilton Honors credit cards, the ultra-luxurious, ultra-expensive Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi represents a stellar value for points.

The problem, though, is availability for the base beach villas.

For a long time, we’ve known that the would be recategorizing the which room type was considered the “base room type” for an award stay – from the Beach Villa to the Reef Villa.

Base Room Change – from Beach Villa to Ocean (Reef) Villa

This has now happened, though they have renamed the Reef Villa to an Ocean Villa, and this has led to a sudden swath of award availability in February, March, and April where there had been essentially none.

As you can see, you’re getting over $2,000 a night in value for those 120,000 points or the free credit card weekend night certificate.

To me, this is a slight downgrade on the room type available for awards, we we prefer a beach villa to an overwater villa, and best I can tell the Reef/Ocean Villa is somewhere in between – you don’t have a huge private beach area nor are you fully overwater. Still, the room type was probably originally higher than the Beach Villa for a reason – people like it.

If you’d been looking for a winter/spring trip to the Maldives, take a look for space while it lasts.
