United has a limited time offer on right now to register and then convert hotel points with a 30% bonus. The ratios in all hotel to airline programs stink, so ignore all but one: Marriott.

Let me start by saying that while, by the valuations, this may make sense, I don’t generally advise it. That’s because you can earn United both with United credit cards and Chase Ultimate Rewards cards.  But let’s say you need to top off for a redemption or you are locked out of Chase due to 5/24.

In that case, this is a good deal by the numbers. First remember that with the United/Marriott deal, you already get a 10% bonus on all transfers. So your 60,000 Marriott points (the minimum to get a 5,000-mile bonus on your transfer) would normally become 27,500 United miles.  With this bonus, you’ll get 35,750 United miles for your 60,000 Marriott miles.

I want to reiterate, this isn’t a slam dunk, rush out and transfer kind of deal. It’s an “if this makes sense in your situation / would have transferred anyway” thing.  If you do want to participate, just be sure to register first. It’s not automatic.

Would you do this? Let me know on Twitter, or in the private MilesTalk Facebook group.
