Ever since the launch of the new MGM Rewards, there have been a few unanswered questions.

I spoke to Michael Trager of TravelZork and the TravelZork Facebook group today to get a few nuanced answers to reader questions…

Remember that if you book “direct” which means via MGM itself (phone or website), there are no resort fees if you are MGM Rewards Gold.

Here we go:

Will the Hyatt and MGM Rewards Partnership stay in tact, including the tier matches?

Yes, no change here. Your Hyatt Explorist and above will continue to match to MGM Gold and MGM Gold and higher will continue to match to Hyatt Explorist

Will a "matched MGM Rewards Gold" have to pay resort fees on Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) bookings?

Yes. Unfortunately yes.

Will a "matched MGM Rewards Gold" have to pay resort fees on World of Hyatt stays (Paid via Hyatt.com or via Hyatt points)?

Unfortunately, the answer to both is yes. If you book a cash rate on hyatt.com or redeem World of Hyatt points, you'll have to pay the resort fees. Yes, even if you are Globalist!

Will someone on a comp or casino rate have to pay resort fees as a matched MGM Rewards Gold?

No, this is great news. That's a direct channel reservation and you;'ll have no resort fees due. Huzzah!

Will a matched MGM Rewards Gold member get the $100 Dinner?

No. Only earned Gold in 2022 and beyond will get this. To clarify, if you earned Gold in 2021, that doesn't qualify. You have to earn it this year. And matched Golds will not get this at all unless they qualify for Gold with tier credits.

Will a matched MGM Platinum member get the flight credit to Vegas?

No, definitely not. Like the Gold dinner, a matched Platinum member would not get these benefits. (Matching to Platinum is very hard to do, but somewhat possible at MGM Springfield if you have a top tier card from another local casino).

Will non-gaming spend earn redeemable MGM Rewards points or just tier credits?

This is something important to know. You will earn redeemable points for non-gaming spend, meaning you could access the fantastic Amphora Lounge at Borgata in Atlantic City even if you don't gamble by spending $1,250 at the hotel (including folio charge). That's because it's $12.50 in comp dollars per person to enter. You earn Rewards at 1 per $1 spent.

Any other questions? Let me know! (Note, Michael is still awaiting clarification on resort fees for MyVegas stays.
