Some updates will be happening over at American Airlines’ AAdvantage program for next year. These changes are in effect as of January 1, 2019.

A full list of changes are here.

The biggest change is that Executive Platinum members will need to earn $15k worth of Qualifying Dollars, up from $12k previously.

There will also be some nice gifts for Executive Platinums that reach higher EQM levels:

Some EQM earnings on partner airlines will increase. For example, a J fare on BA will now earn 3x EQM vs 1.5x now. AA Y fares will decrease to 1 EQM per mile.

There will be also be some pretty big changes on how “special fares” – i.e. from vacation packages, consolidators, etc – will earn.

Overall, the changes look positive for many scenarios, though certainly some people that had figured out ways to maximize certain fares may be disappointed, as may EXPs that struggled already to meet the $12,000 in EQDs.
