Amex Platinum Card
American Express Platinum Card

Yesterday, Amex announced a $200 Appreciation Credit towards the annual fee on the Business Platinum card to help offset the travel benefits we can’t use right now.  They later announced similar credits on 5 additional American Express cards.

$200 Travel Credit for American Express Platinum Card

Unsurprisingly, many in the MilesTalk Facebook group were asking “But what about the personal (consumer) Platinum Card?”

Today, Amex answered that question with the following:

Beginning in August of this year through 2021, you can earn up to $200 in statement credits after you use your Platinum Card to make eligible American Express Travel purchases. Details to come.

The pattern with all of these credit offers so far has been that it’s only being offered to those with renewal dates between May 1st and Dec 31, 2020.  If you are eligible, you will see a banner on the top of the card screen when you login to your AmericanExpress.com account online. It may show in the mobile app under Amex Offers, but it more consistently will show on the desktop version.

They aren’t 100% clear if this is a $200 credit per calendar year or a one-time $200 credit to be used by the end of 2021, though I’m reasonably sure it’s the latter. You’ll need to book on AmexTravel.com to qualify.

While it’s not as good as the $200 cash-in-hand offer the Business Platinum card is offering, you have until Dec 2021 just to make the booking, meaning you can use the credit for travel all the way through 2022.

This credit joins a range of recent Amex credit offers:

So far, we’ve seen credits on the following cards:

Amex Business Platinum card: $200 annual fee Appreciation credit

Consumer Delta Reserve Card: $100 credit.

Business Delta Reserve $125 credit.

Business Delta Platinum $75 credit.

Business Hilton Honors $50 credit.

Business Marriott Bonvoy $50 credit.

As well, we’e seen benefits for the Hilton cards, Hilton Surpass and Aspire: Use Weekend Nights on Weekdays, 12X Hilton points at supermarkets, and Other New Benefits as well as a slew of monthly statement credits for various spending categories (Amex Launches “Stay at Home” Bonus Points and Statement Credits on Various Cards).

That’s on top of 6X Marriott Bonvoy Points at Grocery Stores on Chase/Amex Bonvoy Credit Cards.
