Amex Extends Welcome Bonus Durations for Three Extra Months!
While I’d heard a rumor this was coming, it was officially announced today:
American Express is extending all welcome bonus “minimum spend” deadlines for 3 additional months for those who have been approved for a personal or business Amex card from Dec 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020
Up until now, the most I had heard of was Chase extending bonus offer timeframes by one month – and only on a case-by-case basis.
Amex is the first issuer I am aware of to make this offer to everyone and for 3 months.
In short, if you applied and were approved January 1st for a card with a 3 month welcome offer period, you only had until March 31st to make that minimum spend. If you’re spending less while staying at home (which most of us are!), you now have until June 30th to complete your minimum spend requirement.
Since this applies even to new applications form now through May 31st, his is an especially good time to think about what welcome bonuses require more spend than you would typically spend in 3 months but would in 6 months.
American Express Cards with High Minimum Spend Requirements
Platinum Card from American Express 60,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $5,000 in your first three months (Six months under this offer – $550 annual fee)
American Express Gold Card 35,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend $4,000 in 3 months (Six months under this offer – $250 annual fee). Remember this card has a $10 monthly food delivery credit via GrubHub and more.
American Express Cards with Normal Minimum Spend Requirements
The Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express is another option with 10,000 Membership Rewards when you spend $3,000 within 3 months (Six months under this offer – no annual fee).
The Delta cards were good choices until yesterday, but their welcome bonus offers dropped significantly today.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card or Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card could be worth a look as it pertains to yesterday’s news that you can get 15 elite nights from both a personal and a business Marriott Bonvoy credit card. Both require $3,000 in spend.
And the Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express which requires $4,000 in spend is another option.
