This is simply awesome news for anyone that has never pulled the trigger on an American Express® Gold Card.
For years now, people have tried every trick in the book to try and get the best possible welcome bonus offer on this card, which has an all time high of 100,000 points. More commonly, if lucky, people sometimes saw 90,000 via refer-a-friend links or browsing in a private browser, but Amex has come around and is not customizing the welcome bonus offer to you.
To be clear, that means that some won’t get the 100,000 point offer. But in a trial run on the MilesTalk Facebook group I posted the link earlier today – curious what people would get.
Way more people than I expected were offered the 100,000 points! This is for $6,000 in spend in 6 months – or just $1,000 a month in spend. Pretty easy for most.
I do want to be very clear about how the offer works and how it is worded. When you click the How to Apply button on our site here you will see an offer that looks like this:
And the wording on the offer matches:
You may be eligible for as high as 100,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you spend $6,000 in eligible purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer. Apply to know if you’re approved and find out your exact welcome offer amount – all with no credit score impact. If you’re approved and choose to accept the Card, your score may be impacted.
The important thing is that they will not pull your credit (a hard pull) until after you confirm you like the offer, which could be 100,000 points or 90,000 points – or less. (or you may not be eligible at all… for instance if you’ve had the card before or have or have had a personal Platinum Card).
Also keep in mind that if you have any Amex cards now, they *often* (but it’s absolutely not a guarantee) won’t pull your credit in a hard pull even when approving you – that varies by person.
So click here, then click How to Apply (the button under the card image), and then follow the instructions to see what you are offered.
Both the 90,000 and 100,000 offers are great.
And the card is great – top of wallet for me – with no preset spending limit and 4X Membership Rewards points on dining and supermarket spend (up to $25,000 a year) as well as 3X on airfare booked directly with an airline. And while the fee isn’t nothing, the statement credits way more than cover that fee. Not to mention that since we value Amex points at 1.7 cents each assuming you’ll use their airline transfer partners, a 100,000 point welcome bonus is worth (to us) $1,700. Not bad!
Post below what you get offered! We are still collecting data points….
