Avios have a LOT of uses. They don’t expire for 36 months and even that can be extended with activity. They can be moved between any Avios partner, but notably you can link BA to Finnair and to Qatar inside the Finnair and Qatar accounts, making for a one click transfer process (though do be aware of slight risk of Avios accounts being locked for suspected fraud risk when points are transferred to one Avios and right to another).
- I just used 39,000 Qatar Avios (13,000 pp) to book 3 one way economy tickets on JetBlue to the Caribbean where the cash price exceeded $800 per person.
- You can book Qatar QSuites to Doha for 70k per person.
- You can book a FIRST Class award from JFK-LAX/SFO on AA’s 3 cabin transcon flights for 40k Finnair Avios.
- Qatar Avios are generally great for shorthaul on oneworld partners.
The only downside to taking part in this transfer bonus is that you can transfer pretty much anything (including Rove Miles) to Avios, and often with transfer bonuses of up to 30%. I want to use Bilt points for more unique things like Hyatt (Chase is the only other Hyatt transfer partner) or JAL (Capital One is the only other transfer partner and Bilt has a better transfer ratio).
At a 100% bonus, since I’m Bilt Platinum, it’s tempting. I’ll need to ponder if I move a bit over just because it’s 100%, or hold off since I don’t have anything to book right now…
