Do you have the Citi Prestige credit card?

If so, you are likely aware of the coming changes to the Citi Prestige on July 23rd. Lots of benefits are being changed or removed from the card, with a few small additions. There will be a signup bonus of 75,000 ThankYou points (starting August 1st with our links) with $7,500 in spend and, importantly, the “4th night free” hotel benefit will be changing to an average of all 4 nights excluding taxes and fees.  If you book four nights where all the nights are the same price it isn’t a huge deal as you only lose 1/4 of the taxes. But sometimes one night is much more than the rest.

My own Citi Prestige card

I wasn’t sure if stays after July 23 would count (i.e. booking date vs stay date) but JT Genter tells us he is still getting confirmations for the 4th night free for stays after July 22nd.

Let’s say you have a Wednesday to Sunday stay with rooms prices as follows:

Weds: $200 + $18 tax

Thurs: $200 + $18 tax

Fri: $250 + $23 tax

Sat: $450 + 41 tax

(it’s not unusual for weekend nights to be more expensive!)

The math:

If you book this by the end of tomorrow, July 22nd, you will get a rebate of $491 (how’s that for covering your annual fee in one shot??!!)

If you book this July 23rd or later, you would get a rebate of $275.

That’s $216 less!

So take a look at your upcoming travel plans and see if you can make some bookings.

Heck, as long as it is cancellable, make a few you aren’t even sure you will use. I’m thinking about what I can book right now.

WIll you be booking some 4 night stays now? Let me know here or on the private MilesTalk Facebook group.
