Using this link you can buy Starpoints for 35% off You have to hold the SPG Amex credit card. This is about 2.3 cents a point. While not a screaming deal, it may be good if you know what you are booking.  It’s good until June 3rd.

A night at a category 4 hotel is 10,000 Starpoints. That will cost you $227.50 with this deal.

A night at a category 5 hotel starts at 12,000 Starpoints.  That is $273 under this deal.

And a night at a Category 6 hotel starts at 20,000 Starpoints a night, or $455 with this deal (too rich for my blood, not if you were going to pay $700 for a night at a Cat 6, still a deal!

Using a random search, say New York for June 8, you may find a deal. The Four Points by Times Square starts at $450 + tax that night for a refundable rate. That’s $520 all in.  But it’s 12,000 points a night meaning you could book that same room for $273 right now.

The Element Times Square West is also the same 12,000 points that night vs $409 (473 w/ tax). This deal would save you a cool $200 a night!

That said, I ran a search in Paris for the same day and couldn’t find a single hotel where it made sense since all by the LM Etoile are 20,000 points a night or more with revenue rates around $200.

As always, look at the cash rate, then the points rate with this deal, and do the math. Always know how you will use the points and I always advise not to buy and bank them – as programs only devalue over time.

There is also currently a 10,000 Starpoint referral offer if you have the SPG Amex and refer a friend (though it’s not the best ever signup bonus)
