In yesterday’s “Round Up” I covered a new 48 month rule for Venture and Venture X cards that seemed to limit you to one of the two bonuses every 48 months.

But Danny Deal Guru got some clarification from Capital One (it seems they have tweaked the rules further). The rules work somewhat like Amex Green/Gold/Plat in that you can get a higher bonus but not a lower one (i.e. you can get Venture and then Venture X but if you have Venture X, you can’t get Venture for 48 months). Of course, Amex is technically once in a lifetime (or 7 years after closing a card) whereas these have a 48 month restriction rather than per lifetime.

  • Venture X: Customers are not eligible for the Venture X bonus if they have earned the Venture X bonus within the last 48 months
  •  Venture: Customers are not eligible for the Venture bonus if they have earned the Venture X bonus or the Venture bonus within the last 48 months
  • VentureOne: Customers are not eligible for the VentureOne bonus if they have earned the Venture X, Venture, or VentureOne bonus within the last 48 months

Keep in mind that Capital One will also only approve you for one card per 6 months. Additionally, there are some less crystal clear rules around card limits but it seems to be a max of two prime cards, two non-prime cards, and two (maybe more) business cards.
