If you have a bank of Delta miles that you’ve been saving for a trip to Asia, you’ve got only until the end of the year to do it. China Southern is existing Skyteam as of the end of 2018, meaning that your ability to book flights to/through China using Delta Skymiles or Air France / KLM Flying Blue miles goes away then as well.
Their business class is widely thought to be far superior to that of China Eastern, which remains part of Star Alliance, and I was personally hoping I’d get to burn some Skymiles on China Southern, though the opportunity in my travel plans hasn’t come up.
Make sure you book anything you plan to using Skyteam partner miles by Dec 31, 2018.
