That’s right! Starting February 1st, you’ll get free wifi on over 500 of Delta’s planes, with a complete rollout system wide by 2024.

Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO, made the announcement today at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The wifi should be fast as well, as they are only rolling out the free service on their new/upgraded network.

You’ll merely have to have a SkyMiles account… no elite status necessary. If you don’t have a SkyMiles account and *really* don’t want to create one for some reason, you’ll pay $10 on these planes.

Although JetBlue has had free and fast wifi for years, Delta beats out United and American Airlines in offering this – practically forcing them to follow suit (in my humble opinion).

Otherwise, I think there are definitely people that logon for every flight and would choose Delta over the competition.

Like free wifi in hotels, this was inevitable and it will quickly evolve from a point of differentiation to something you expect (at least with US carriers).
