By far, the easiest way in the world to earn a Companion Pass on Southwest for 2 full years is the strategy of applying for two Southwest credit cards.

Since November, you have been able to get 120,000 bonus points (enough to qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass for all of 2019 and 2020) simply by getting the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card along with one of the three personal Southwest credit card flavors: the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit CardSouthwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card, or the Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card.

The elevated offer on the personal cards is now set to end on January 9th. I don’t know to what exactly, though I’d guess a straight 40,000 point bonus.  As long as the Business card remains at a 60,000 point bonus, you still won’t be far off from the Companion Pass once you meet spend. But I don’t know for sure what will happen to the Business card bonus either.

And regardless, given that you earn the Companion Pass for the current year and all of next year, it only makes sense that if you plan to employ this strategy in 2019, that you do it now.

Your Move

I put all of this together in one easy to understand post in November. If you are still on the fence, I suggest reading it: Southwest Companion Pass for TWO Years: It’s Go Time.

While not nearly as big as two-year Southwest Companion Pass, be sure you read yesterdays post on the World of Hyatt credit card, whose bonus is also decreasing on the same day: Chase Hyatt Credit Card Bonus Decreasing: Tips to Decide if it is Right For You.
