hilton digital key sharing and upgrades

Hilton will now offer Gold and Diamond Hilton Honors members notification of their space-available upgrade 72 hours prior to arrival, enabling the member to choose their upgraded room directly when they check in via the Hilton Honors app.

This is potentially interesting, but I’m skeptical. For Diamonds, suites are “on the table” as upgrades, but hotels are not required to give them, even if available, like Hyatt Globalists and Marriott Platinum and above are entitled to.

So, will these digital upgrades ever be to Suites? Or will these just be higher floors / better views? If suites are actually part of this, it would be amazing – especially given the 72 hour advance notification. I’m also not clear if this is being somehow run through Hulton’s inventory system (much like how Marriott’s Suite Night Awards are, for better or worse, controlled by Bonvoy) or via each property (more likely).

Additionally, they have launched Digital Key Share, whichwill allow more than one guest to have access to their room’s Digital Key (which turns the free Hilton Honors app on their smartphones into a room key).

This is a cool feature.
