how many US states have you visited

Since COVID hit, I’ve yet to travel internationally. I want to, for sure, but a combination of constantly changing COVID requirements and restrictions as well as health concerns has kept my travel domestic since last summer. I almost ventured out to Portugal this past weekend, but once I saw it would rain all day, every day of my trip, I scrambled and wound up with a long weekend in Portland, Oregon instead.

That got me thinking about how many US states I’ve been to, given that I finally checked the box on several myself in the last year or so.

We traveled for the first time after lockdown last summer through New Hampshire and Maine, my first time in both states. This past April we made it to Hawaii, another first for me, and then I visited both Alaska and now Washington State in the last two months.

I’ve now been to 34 states, meaning that I still have 16 to go!

The thing is, though, that some of these recent trips have been amazing. Alaska was just spectacular, as was Hawaii and New Hampshire and Maine and Oregon.

Since I was in my early twenties, I’ve been hopping around to all the countries I could (50 and counting) but realize how the mistake it has been to miss so many wonderful states.

I’m hoping to keep visiting new states until I’ve seen them all. Many states are just as unique as another country – in fact, sometimes even moreso!

So I’m wondering…

How many states have you been to? What’s at the top of your list?
