I just want you to know you’re not alone.

If you, like me, selected your 2018 Marriott Choice Benefit for 50 nights / Platinum, but were waiting to choose your 75 night / Platinum Premier benefit – and logged in Jan 1 to find that your 75 night benefit is GONE, you’re not alone.

I initially panicked when I logged in and saw this message as I thought I inadvertently made a second selection. But no, I still have exactly 5 Suite Night Awards available, not 10.

I did the “dirty work” of actually phoning Marriott and they’ve informed me that it’s a known issue and to give it 48 hours.

Otherwise, the deadline to make your choice is supposed to be January 14th.

Per Marriott: In the event that an eligible Platinum Elite Member fails to select an Annual Choice Benefit by January 14th of the year following the applicable Qualifying Period, the Member will receive five (5) Suite Night Awards™ as his/her Annual Choice Benefit (“Suite Night Awards,” individually “Suite Night Award“).

This matters because you may have, like me, been waiting until January to select a Free Night Award (good for a hotel up to 40,000 points a night) since choosing it now means it’s valid until December 2020. Chosen last year it would have expired in December 2019.

So that’s all…. You are not alone.

Were you panicking? What other angles am I missing? How would you advise someone to look at this card yourself? Let me know here, on Twitter, or in the private MilesTalk Facebook group.
