Back in March, when COVID-19 took the world by storm and travel ground to a halt, most hotels also withdrew from portals like Rakuten and mileage earning portals.

Marriott Stopped Appearing Shopping Portals in March

After all, for quite some time, all that anyone was doing was cancelling future bookings. It wasn’t exactly the time to try to incentivize new bookings and even if they could get some new bookings, marketing costs were on the chopping block and portal payouts were an easy cut.

Marriott is Back on Several Shopping Portals

As you can see below, you’ll be able to earn up to 2 miles per dollar or 3% cash back. I usually opt for Rakuten so I can accumulate more Amex Membership Rewards points, though in this case Top Cashback has a better yield. When possible, my first choice is Alaska Mileage Plan but that isn’t an option.

IHG is Also Back – Kind Of

You can only earn miles with American Airlines or a couple of other spots, but if you are booking IHG, take what you can get there as well.

Hopefully this is the start of more shopping portal bonuses for hotel bookings in general.
