Doctor of Credit just posted via View From the Wing that the SPG Luxury card (an American Express card) is going to launch on Aug 23rd.  Gary Leff of VFTW has confirmed to me this comes straight from Amex.

Why is this so exciting? Because all of the new restrictions that both Chase and Amex are instituting, which SEVERELY limit eligibility for new bonuses.

I wrote yesterday about the two new bonuses on the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card (75,000 points) and Starwood Preferred Guest Business credit card (100,000 points) but this is even bigger.

That’s because many of us have already had (or have) one of the above two cards making us ineligible for bonuses on the existing cards anyway. But none of us have ever had the SPG Luxury Amex, since it’s brand new. And with the signup bonus rumored to be a whopping 125,000 points (that’s like 41,666 “old” Starpoints), I’m all in.

We had thought the SPG Luxury card might not launch until August 26th – which would have made so many of us ineligible. If this date is accurate, which it appears to be since it comes directly from Amex, most of us will be able to scoop up the 125,000 bonus points (welcome bonus).

DoC reminds us that you can only have 5 Amex credit cards (personal and small business combined + charge cards (i.e. Gold/Plat) which don’t count against the limit. You can also only get one Amex per 5 days and 2 per 90 days, so keep that in mind if signing up for any other Amex cards now.
