30% Transfer Bonus from American Express Membership Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy

I haven’t seen a Marriott transfer bonus before, but while logged in trying to sort out how which card I received a referral bonus for (thank you, somebody!), I noticed this along side the ongoing BA/Iberia/Aer Lingus 40% bonuses:

Is this a great bonus worth you plowing all your points into?

No.

I value Marriott Bonvoy points at about 0.7 cents (and may revise slightly downward after Sept. 14th when peak pricing starts), so even with the bonus, you are getting just 0.91 cents in value for your Amex Membership Rewards points. You can certainly do better.

However, Marriott Bonvoy points aren’t super easy for you to earn outside of Marriott stays, with the Marriott Bonvoy credit cards offering just 2 points per dollar spent on most non-hotel spend (the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card also offers 4x Bonvoy points at US restaurants, gas stations, shipping, and wireless telephone service).

So, if you are trying to top off for an award or need some miles for one of the Marriott transfer partners that you can’t otherwise transfer to, like Asiana, it’s worth knowing about.

It’s definitely not a speculative transfer opportunity, however, it will be a good opportunity for some.
