Small businesses are struggling tremendously during the COVID-19 pandemic and American Express is doing its part to stimulate some spending at small businesses with this Shop Small promotion.

Amex “Shop Small”
Register at the Amex Shop Small registration page using any of your American Express cards (note that third party Amex cards like the Wells Fargo Propel require using a separate login at the bottom of that page). You have to enroll by July 26th.
Every time you spend $10 at a business that Amex categorizes as a Small Business, you’ll get a $5 statement credit. You can do this up to 10 times through September 20, 2020.
You can only register one Amex credit (or charge) card so choose carefully. (I remember the old Small Business Saturday days where you could register every card!!)
You can also simply pop into your Amex Offers on the card you want and register that way.
I chose my Amex Gold card, figuring that so many of the local businesses are ones that I would charge on my Amex Gold anyway (dining or groceries). Pick whichever one you’re most likely to remember to use for small local purchases.
All American Express cards except corporate cards are eligible.
Once you hit $50 in total statement credits, further purchases won’t trigger any credits.
What merchants are eligible “Small Business” merchants?
You can use the Shop Small map to see local small businesses around you that are eligible. By me, Magnolia Cupcakes sure looks like a nice first $5 off of $10 to explore 😉
Generally, stores that aren’t massive chains tend to be eligible.
