Europe’s Reopening Plan for July May Exclude Americans

In the NY Times article, based on some preliminary drafts of the EU’s plan for a July 1st reopening to international travel, states that while Chinese citizens would be welcome to travel to Europe for business or leisure, the US may be on a ban list along with Brazil and Russia over coronavirus concerns.

Of course, this is not what I nor you want to see.

But in context, we banned travelers from Europe in March when they had spiking cases and we were in the early innings.

I got some flack months ago when I opined that the world may not want us when we felt ready to travel internationally, due to our lax handling of the virus. It’s not political – it’s math and risk assessment.

Coronavirus in the US versus Europe

Here’s where we are at now nationwide in the US.

By contrast, here is France and Germany as an example of where the EU is at (Google does not provide data for Europe as a whole).

As you can see, the US is more in line with Russia and Brazil.

Bottom Line

In short, I hate that we may not be allowed back into Europe any time soon, but I also understand why they may take these actions.

Keep in mind this is not final and things may well change.

Also keep in mind this will not include the UK, which is no longer a part of the EU.
