On Saturday September 9th, 2023 at 7pm, we’ll be celebrating 25,000 members in the MilesTalk Facebook group.
The irony is that planning got delayed and by the time we have this party, we will be over 30,000 MilesTalkers! So call it the 25,000 member celebration if you want, but we are growing to fast to pin us down on a number 😉
It turns out that people really do like friendly Facebook groups themed around travel, miles, and points that don’t bite people’s heads off when they ask a question!
Why a Saturday? Because *so many* members wanted to fly in for the event, that when I polled what day was best, Saturday was an overwhelming winner.
I’ve booked a fantastic venue in the Penn Station area called The Tailor. The owner is a great guy who is more than willing to work with us on not just drink specials and a reserved space on a Saturday night in Manhattan, but the space is so big that if we outgrow our initial space, we should be able to add more tickets.
So far – just from one quick post in the Facebook group – we have already sold over 1/3 of our 125 tickets including all of the VIP tickets.
Sorry! But I had to reward the most voracious group participants with the first crack!
You can buy your tickets here at Eventbrite. It’s only a $5 ticket cost (plus Eventbrite’s ridiculous fees) which I do simply to avoid 500 RSVPs and 100 attendees. Messes up everything with the venue.
We will have drink specials the whole time, plus some appetizer platters on the house (my house! haha).
The drink specials are a 6/7/8:
$6 Beers
$7 House wine
$8 Well drinks
These will be valid for all 3 hours of the party.
The ticket breakdown is as follows:
First 20 tickets get 2 drink tickets each + a MilesTalk pint glass(SOLD OUT)- Next 80 tickets get 2 drink tickets each
- After that, if there is room!, it will be one drink ticket when you enter. I will try to get more space once we have sold the 1st 100 tickets.
I will also have some giveaways and though we lost an early potential sponsor, I’m still working to have some extra goodies on hand – potentially from another sponsor. If the venue setup permits, I may do a short Trivia contest for prizes. TBD!
Again, buy your tickets here at Eventbrite. The sooner the buy, the more you get for your ticket and at some point we will have to cut off ticket sales due to space, though the sooner we sell out (which we will purely based on everyone that’s already said they are coming and not even counting their +1s), the better chance I can open up some more space and tickets.
NOTE that you do need to be a group member or a +1 of a group member to attend. We’ll be noting your “Member Since” date 😉
I’ll be there, of course, and look forward to meeting all the group members. Group moderators Sarah and A.R. will be there as well.
So if you needed an excuse for a weekend in NYC, here you go!
