Yesterday, I wrote about Arne Sorensen’s announcement that you’d need to wear a mask inside the common spaces of Marriott hotels in in the United States from July 27th.
When airlines started requiring masks onboard, it started with one and the rest followed like dominos.

Hyatt Requires Masks from July 27th in the US and Canada
Well, Hyatt followed closely behind Marriott (I’m assuming that they both planned it at the same time and Marriott’s release just got circulated first.
On the Hyatt COVID-19 page, as of yesterday, they now state:
Following American Hotel & Lodging Association’s (AHLA) recent announcement of its “Safe Stay Guest Checklist”—and following medical expert guidance to help reduce the spread of COVID-19—all Hyatt hotels in the U.S. and Canada will require face coverings within indoor public areas beginning Monday, July 27, for the foreseeable future.’
They go on to specify:
Public areas may include hotel lobbies, meetings and events spaces, restaurants and bars, and fitness centers. Some guests may be exempt from this mandate, including but not limited to guests with medical conditions, guests consuming food or beverages in restaurants, and children under the age of 2.
Will IHG and Hilton Follow?
Your guess is as good as mine, but I assume so. It’s the right move right now, with COVID-19 on the rise domestically.
