Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is an online cash back portal. You have the choice to earn your cash back as straight cash or to earn them as American Express Membership Rewards points.

Rakuten (formerly Ebates) Refer-A-Friend program
For example, if a store offers 10% cash back and you spend $100, you’ll get $10 cash back in your Rakuten account. Or, if you applied as a Membership Rewards member, you would earn 1,000 American Express Membership Rewards points instead.
I have my account set to earn the points since I value then at 1.7 cents each giving me a 70% bump in value for my cash back.
Rakuten always has a refer-a-friend offer where you get $10 when a friend spends $25 through Rakuten within 90 days and they get $10 bonuses as well.
Refer-a-Friend Triple Bonus Offer ($30 or 3,000 Membership Rewards points)
Through May 11th (Was May 1st), Rakuten is tripling the payout, offering $30 (or 3,000 American Express Membership Rewards points) when you refer someone who spends $25 within 90 days. The person signing up for Rakuten will also get $30 or 3,000 American Express Membership Rewards points in their account.
Some notable offers on right now from Rakuten include 4% back at Uber Eats or 2% at GrubHub. I don’t know about you, but those food delivery services are adding up during quarantine!
If you set yourself up as a Membership Rewards earning account, you can change later to take cash instead, should you change your mind later. Payouts are quarterly.
Here’s my referral link. If you already have an account, this is a great time to refer your friends!
