Amex Offer: $40 off $200 at Marriott Bonvoy Properties

A sweet new Amex Offer is out for Marriott Bonvoy properties in North American and the Caribbean for $40 off $200.

Many (including me!) get pretty excited by offers from the likes of Marriott, Hyatt (which also has a current Amex Offer) and Hilton because we have many stays there, making it quite easy to use.

What makes this offer a bit better than normal is that these offers often are limited to the United States. This one specifies participating Marriott Bonvoy® properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Great news for me – especially with a Caribbean stay coming up.

Note that I have this on several Amex cards (you have to pick just one) but I do not have it on either of my Marriott Bonvoy Amex credit cards – I have the base Bonvoy Amex and the  Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card – so I’ll add it to my Amex Green Card for 3X on travel.

Optimizing Amex Offers in Two Player Mode

One thing to keep in mind with hotel stays: If you have a Player 2, you can both activate the offer and then have the front desk do a partial payment mid-stay.

Example: We recently had a Hyatt offer and stayed at a Grand Hyatt. That offer was $60 off $300 and we each had it on our Amex Gold Cards. But I also have the World of Hyatt credit card which earns 4x on Hyatt spend.

So, I gave the Hyatt card at checkin for final payment, but mid-stay I went to the front desk and had them swipe $300 on each of our cards. Saved us $120 in total and the balance settled to the Hyatt credit card. I received all due Hyatt points.
