Updated Feb 27, 2026 – New Discover offers are live.
One of the most fun things about having rewards credit cards linked in your Amazon account is the opportunity to get targeted for deals where you can pay with just one rewards point (it’s a otherwise a very poor deal to actually pay for merchandise with rewards points – much less than even just redeeming for cash or gift cards).
So we always say to use just one point when/if the deal allows.
In this article
American Express Membership Rewards “Pay One Point”
Deal varies by account.
Here’s one version of the offer:
We hadn’t see Amex deals requiring 714 points to redeem for a while, but they have returned for some accounts 🙁
Here’s the one I just pulled. Note I will still use this since using about $11 in points to save $60 is worth it, but I’ll need to make sure to spend it all in one shot. When it’s just one point you can spread it out.
Confused about whether your Amex “714 points” offer makes sense to use? I break it down here.
American Express Reward Dollars
If you have an Amex card earning Rewards Dollars instead of Membership Rewards® points, you can check here to see if you are targeted for an offer.
Citi ThankYou “Pay One Point”
See if you are targeted. After a hiatus, this is back as of December 2025 requiring just 125 points to use (which gives you $1 back towards the order).
Capital One “Pay One Point”
This may actually require 625 miles to be used rather than one. Discount will vary.
Chase Ultimate Rewards “Pay One Point”
See if you are targeted. Deal varies by account. Last reported active – unknown
US Bank “Pay One Point”
Discover “Pay One Point”
See if you are targeted. Deal varies by account. Last reported active – July 7, 2025
What Can You Buy?
Eligible products are items that can be purchased using Shop with Points at checkout at Amazon.com.
This is a change from previous rules that required the item to be shipped and sold by Amazon.com (HT: Jeff G.)

How to Checkout
Then, at checkout, make sure your Amex / Chase / Citi / Discover card is set for the payment method. At that point it will default to using points for the whole purchase. Change that.
You want to use *one point* for one cent off. (Don’t use more as the rate they give you per point is not very good, unless you are caving into that 714 point or similar offer.). Discover requires paying with your cash back ponts.
If the rest was done properly, you’ll see the discount off reflected on your checkout page.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The next time you checkout, be sure you aren’t paying with all point by default as Amazon changes your default payment method.

Thanks for the info! I got the Amex bonus and it did work for gift card!!
It ended up costing me 142 points for using 1 dollar with amex.
I think you paid $1.00 of points. You should be doing $0.01 of points 🙂
I got the 714 pts for only a pitiful 15% – probably less than 1/2 cent worth. I don’t ever seem to get the good ones.
Yes, unfortunately that combo is the perfect storm to make it not much of a deal 🙁
Worse than 714 is my offer of 1,429 for 15% max $15.
Get 15% off (up to $15) eligible products when using a minimum of 1,429 Membership Rewards points. 🙄
