Six Transfer Bonuses in August

I don’t tend to write about these anymore on MilesTalk because now that the Your Best Credit Cards Transfer Bonus Notifications have caught on in such a big way, I post them all there.

While of course you should subscribe so that these land in your inbox (for free) minutes after they come out, you can also simply go to that page and read everything that goes out to subscribers.

Today’s bonuses included Amex to British Airways Avios, Iberia Avios, and Aer Lingus Avios as well as Amex to Hawaiian Airlines (potential arbitrage??).

Then there’s Chase to Marriott Bonvoy and Capital One to Qantas.

I give my thoughts on each one in each section on the page.

DoorDash Extensions on Chase Cards

Award Wallet was quick to notice a bunch of changes on Chase cards today with regards to DoorDash DashPass. Originally the last day to sign up was Dec 31, 2024 but now you can enroll as late as December 31, 2027 and then you’d have it through December of 2028.

Assumably, if you already enrolled you will now be extended through the same date. That said, DoorDash never offers discounts (at least to me!) whereas Uber Eats sends me $15 off deals pretty much every week. I cannot say that I actually use DoorDash as a result. If I don’t have an Uber Eats discount, I order direct from the restaurant.

They also point out that the $5 discount on the Reserve card is changing from a savable credit to a once a month discount.

Lastly, if you haven’t activated on a Freedom card yet, starting Feb 1, 2025 you’ll be able to get 6 months instead of just 3 now.

You can read more details on the Award Wallet article here.

CLEAR Plus Raises Fees, Amex Adds to Discount

CLEAR, the service the (in most cases) makes airport security faster has raised their fees again effective today with a base membership (no airline program discounts) clocking in at $199. With Delta, having a credit card or any status gets you a discount to $159. Any United status does the same as does any Hawaiian Airlines status.

The real killer though is that the cost to add a family member has skyrocketed to $119 per adult.

The Amex credit on the Platinum Card, Business Platinum Card, Hilton Aspire (you forgot that card had the CLEAR benefit, didn’t you) and the Amex Green Card as well as the Centurion card now give a full $199 statement credit for CLEAR, up from $189.

But the Family cost is the killer. It used to be that with an airline program plan and one extra family member you were covered by the Amex credit. But Amex can’t keep up with how fast CLEAR is increasing fees.
