Via Gary Leff at View From the Wing, Aeroplan (Air Canada’s loyalty program that is a long time favorite (or shall I say “favourite”) way to book Star Alliance awards has made some changes.

Aeroplan Program Changes
You can now:
- Cancel within 24 hours of booking, just like you are used to on US carriers
- Cancel up to 2 hours before departure (a great change from the old 21 days)
- The fee to cancel an award is reduced from CAD$200 to CAD$125 (which is just under $100 USD). That’s huge if your plans aren’t firm.
- Super Elites can change/cancel for free
At the same time, though, they announced a “temporary” restriction as of Sept 1, 2019:
You will be allowed a maximum of just one stopover or open jaw. You can currently have two stopovers (or one of each). If you have been planning an award with two stops, at least you have 6 weeks to book it.
As Gary notes, though, we are still waiting on a new award chart. Remember that Aeroplan was owned by Air Canada – until it wasn’t – and now it is again, so some bits and pieces are still shaking out.
