American Express is ending the $100 incidental airline credit on the Amex Gold card
Just last week, we heard that American Express would be getting rid of the $100 annual airline credit on the Amex Gold card. That seems like a net loss, though I don’t think that the credit ever really fit the card since it’s not really a Travel Rewards card in the same way that the Platinum card is.
We learned that the $100 annual airline incidental credit would end after 2021 and were teased that there would be a replacement.
Amex Adds $10 Monthly Uber Cash credit to the Gold Card
We now know the replacement and it’s not bad:
- American Express Gold Cardholders will get $10 in monthly Uber Cash credits – every month of the year. These will start in “early 2021” per Amex. You can use these credits towards Uber Eats or Uber rides. This perk makes a ton of sense since the Amex Gold card earns 4X on dining and US supermarkets. It’s much more of a food card than a travel card – though you’ll earn Membership Rewards to spend on future travel.
