With all hat tips to Award Wallet, I found this exciting enough to share.
Effective immediately, you can book TAP Portugal awards using JetBlue TrueBlue points at pretty favorable rates.
And it’s not just to/from the US. I was able to pull up pricing for Porto to London.
Hint: London won’t populate but if you search using “Browse by Regions” you can pull up what you need)
I’ve been eyeing the OPO-EWR (Porto to Newark) route for a while now. While the date I want hasn’t become available to partners (and TAP wants over 130,000 miles booked directly) I’m familiar with the pricing.
On JetBlue, you’ll pay 19,000 miles in Economy or 59,000 in Business (nd only $48 in tax and fees!) for a route across the pond like OPO-EWR. From Porto to London, pricing is 12,900 in Economy or 24,900 points in Business Class ($30 in tax/fees).
United would charge 88,000 miles for OPO-EWR (same taxes and fees) in Business Class. And they would charge 45,000 miles for Porto to London in Business Class.
Air Canada Aeroplan would charge 60,000 miles (almost the same) but $142 CAD or just under $100 for Porto to Newark and 35,000 miles in Economy.
Air Canada does win for the Porto to London flight, though, at just 15,000 miles and about $57 USD.
Our matrix of “What points transfer to what miles?” shows us we can transfer from Amex, Chase, and Citi although Amex is not 1:1 making that a poor deal.
Anyway, good news for TAP flyers!
