These aren’t exactly related, but two bits of Air Canada Aeroplan news on the same day can probably share an article 😉

5,000 Aeroplan Award Discount for Chase Sapphire Reserve® Cardholders

Second item first, if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve® card, you can claim a 5,000 mile discount on an Air Canada Aeroplan award (Star Alliance). You just need to register here: https://www.aircanada.com/us/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-cards/chase/chase-csr.html#/.

Hey, with a $795 annual fee, any bones thrown (and I’d say this one is worth in the $60-$100 range) are welcomed. Register by August 18th. It seems to be at least somewhat manual as you’ll need to allow up to 14 days to receive the code.

Note that the terms seem to specify only the personal CSR but no harm in trying your CSR Business card if that’s all you have…

Aeroplan is the Latest Airline to Earn Miles and Status Based on Spend

Joining the club (but at least they still have a fairly transparent award chart for partner awards!) is Air Canada’s Aeroplan program which will now award both redeemable miles and status based on spend.

Starting in 2026, you’ll earn status for 2027 and beyond based on Status Qualifying Credits. Abbreviated as SQC’s, these are the same as PQPs, EQMs, MQDs and whatever your airline of choice calls dollars spent towards status. Happily, the Chase Aeroplan credit card and travel partners will award SQCs as will flights on Star Alliance airlines.

As for the Aeroplan® credit card, you’ll earn like this:

  • 5,000 SQC as a bonus every year
  • 10,000 SQC when you spend $25,000 on your Chase Aeroplan credit card
  • 10,000 SQC when you spend $50,000 on your Chase Aeroplan credit card

Each member can get up to a combined total of 25,000 SQC with Aeroplan credit cards per calendar year. This total is cumulative across all Aeroplan credit cards and issuers.

You can learn more about how you’ll earn status going forward here and how you earn Aeroplan points based on spend for flights here.
