cosmo identity convert transition mgm rewards

Sorry for the teaser. Couldn’t help myself.

In a very predictable move, coinciding with when the member year resets for MGM Rewards, Cosmopolitan Las Vegas’ Identity Rewards will cease to exist on February 1st, 2024.

As of that date, all Identity Points earned through January 31, 2024 will be combined with all MGM Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio. Only combined Tier Points / Tier credits earned through Dec 31, 2023 will be used to determine your MGM Rewards status for 2024.

Normal MGM tier points minimums apply:

  • Sapphire | 0-19,999
  • Pearl | 20,000-74,999
  • Gold | 75,000-200,000
  • Platinum | 200,000+
  • NOIR | Invitation Only

That means January 31, 2024 would be the last day to convert your Identity Points to Marriott Bonvoy points if you are so inclined.

As a reminder, and while it’s not widely talked about due to poor transfer rates, you can transfer points between Cosmopolitan’s Identity program and Marriott Bonvoy at the following rates:

Identity to Marriott
25,000 20,000
10,000 8,000
2,500 2,000
500 400
Marriott to Identity
250,000 100,000
125,000 50,000
25,000 10,000
5,000 2,000

Conversions must be made in 500-point increments. You may convert up to 100,000 points of either type over a 365-day period. The transfer can take up to 7 days.

All you have to do is login to your Identity account, hover over IDENTITY MEMBERSHIP and then Convert Identity to Marriott.

Of course, we also know that MGM is tying up with Marriott Bonvoy beginning October 1, 2023 and that will include 4 Las Vegas hotels (including Cosmopolitan) so who knows what awaits there.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been told that Identity will match MGM Platinum and up to their Identity Rewards, but I don’t know to what level and it seems the only benefit might be earning Identity points faster for when they convert. (I’m talking about now and when I inquired back in March – I am not referring to this happening post-merge. It will not happen for sure as the merge date is a new program year.

Also, it’s been pointed out to me that Identity earns Platinum with 50,000 points vs. 200,000 for MGM Platinum – so indeed this seems not fully thought out for the points to transfer 1:1.
