View from the Wing reports that Delta will be ending their famous 2,500 mile guarantee.
You can (until the program ends on a TBD date in March 2024) claim 2,500 miles from Delta using an online form when your bag takes more than 20 minutes to arrive to baggage claim after arriving at the gate.
Why is the program ending?
Is it because of people making Instagram and TikTok videos about this? Hey, I admit it – my reel from January of 2022 got ~98,000 views. And that was on the low end of what many people got. So like everything on social media, it is certainly possible that the amplification of the benefit (despite signs from Delta at baggage claim!) increased the uptake and made Delta re-evaluate.
Alaska Airlines, which has a similar program but requires you claim the miles on the spot in person at the baggage office, has not made public any changes. I have a feeling that needing to do it in person vs an easy online form has Alaska’s program much less popular.
In any event, here’s my original video with the update added at the end.
