Virgin Atlantic is out with their Black Friday sale (which seems to run all week…) and it’s solid.

Virgin Atlantic Awards – Half Price
The main event, for US flyers anyway, is the Half Off on award flights booked by November 30, 2020 for travel before October 20, 2021.
The West Coast to London is generally 57,500 Virgin points each way in Upper Class and the East Coast is 47,500 points. With this sale, you’d pay 28,750 each way from the West Coast and 23,750 each way to/from the East Coast.
Of course, the surcharges that Virgin is famous for levying are not reduced by 50%, so expect to pay over $700 each way. Flights merely connecting in London will have lower surcharges due to no APD, but connections on other airlines will invalidate the savings, as the sale only applies to flights on Virgin’s own planes. (Notably, if you are flying to London (and this only works one way) you could use Delta miles and pay just $5.60 in tax. Unfortunately, you would also pay 95,000 miles!)
Cabin | Normal price | Save 50% price |
Economy Classic | 25,000 | 12,500 |
Premium | 45,000 | 22,500 |
Upper Class | 95,000 | 47,500 |
Virgin Atlantic Black Friday – Paid Fares
If you are a cash flyer, or want to book an award one way to start things off, you can also take advantage of some pretty extreme savings on Upper Class paid flights.
God Save the Points covers the cash sale extensively. He notes that a slew of routes from London start at just £999 which is only around $1,300 – return! So you could, for example. book a one way award to London, nest a cash fare in, and then book an award back from Europe later. The cash sale works for flights into the summer of 2021. (Booking link)
Virgin is allowing up to two free changes to flights booked right now under their waiver policy, and even covering a bit of any fare difference (up to £350) but note they won’t just move you to a flight more expensive that that differential unless yours was cancelled by them.
I’m going to add these deals to the running list of Black Friday deals we have stickied in the MilesTalk Facebook group as well.
