hertz

In late 2023, Hertz did a no-notice devaluation (always great for customer trust) changing the expiration timeframe from 18 months of no activity to 12 months. So now you need to earn or redeem points within 12 months or you lose all your points.

Today, they went an extra step further for someone that has been actively collecting points for a bigger redemption and making sure that they too will be disappointed. If you are at that point already it seems they will give you 6 months to use them.

Here’s the communication sent out today.

Effective December 31, 2024, points will expire after 5 years from when they were earned, regardless of rental activity. This means that any points that have been in your account for 5 years or longer will expire and be removed from your account. But don’t worry! You’ll have up to 6 months to use those points to book free rental days through 2025. And you can transfer points to an immediate family member who is also a Gold member.

This change is in addition to the current policy in which points will expire after 12 months of no rental activity.

When it comes to Hertz points, you definitely need to stay on your toes. I used to point out that you could transfer the points to airline partners (albeit at poor rates) but they got rid of that perk as well.

So – use ’em or lose ’em.
