Literally.
This morning, Feb 26th, at 10:52am China Standard Time (overnight in the US), Marriott put out a release on the newswire announcing a partnership wherein Marriott Bonvoy members and Cathay Pacific members could link accounts and Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador level members could match to Cathay Pacific AsiaMiles’ Silver status.
Sites like Loyalty Lobby and View from the Wing covered this match this morning. I tried to register around 10am and got this:
Instant Silver status (even though that status is NOT Star Alliance Gold, so no lounge access) seemed too good to be true so I wasted no time.
But when I kept getting this message, I assumed it had to be the wrong link – or something.
Well, when I could not find anything different, I decided to reach out to my press contact at Marriott Bonvoy.
He referred me to the terms and conditions that state this would be for a limited amount of people.

- If the registration quota is met, as determined by AML and Marriott International, registration in the Preferred Partnership Program will close and no longer be available for new Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay Membership Programme members to register.
Stunned, I wrote back to confirm this is what happened. That the program opened and closed within half a day. He confirmed that was the case.
So, if you are still trying to get in on this you can stop. The proverbial boat has been missed – and you were not alone in missing it.
