[Matches Posting!] ITA Volare Status Match Opportunity

Update Aug 2, 2024: My match has come through after ~ two weeks and I’m now top tier Volare Executive until January 2026. My hope is for a transition to Star Alliance for US lounge access on US domestic flights. the 41% stake in ITA by Lufthansa Group was approved by the EU and could close as soon as the end of 2024 setting up a 2025 alliance transition

ITA, the carrier that is essentially the reinvented Alitalia and which is expected to become part of the Lufthansa group (and the Star Alliance) sometime in 2025 is currently offering a status match through August 19, 2024 for residents of any country *except* Italy.

You won’t find SkyTeam relative in the match, nor Alaska, but you will find AA and United, plus many people took advantage of a status match to British Airways earlier this year which is also accepted.

You’ll also receive 10,000 Volare points when you match.

Note that in true Alitalia-turned-ITA form, the document upload doesn’t work in Safari, but it did work in Chrome.

It appears a successful match will be valid until December 2025.

I must note they say that anyone that has previously done a status match with them is not eligible. Many of us matched back in 2021 when the program launched (even though most other SkyTeam airlines wouldn’t even recognize the status. 

You would then get the complete set of SkyTeam Elite or Elite Plus status:

SkyTeam Elite:

• Priority reservation wait list (when fares permit)
• Preferred seating
• Priority check-in counters
• Priority boarding or at leisure 
• Extra baggage allowance

The Elite Plus-status level receives the above, as well as:

• Guaranteed full-fare Y-class reservation on sold-out long-haul flights, at least 24 hours prior to departure.
• Access to airport lounges worldwide, whatever the class of travel, for members in possession of a boarding pass, accompanied by a guest.
• Priority baggage handling on arrival, whatever the class of travel
• Extra baggage allowance

I’ll probably take a shot with BA Gold and see if they hold to the rule about previous matches. If nothing else, it would be a top tier status possibly useful for onward matching and if I fly ITA…. bonus!
