Here’s some good news we can all be happy about heading into the weekend.

Scooped by Frequent Miler, the long awaited (and promised by the end of April) Marriott “Top Offs” are now live. Announced back in October, we’ve been waiting for the ability with bated breath. Whether you have a 35k, 40k, 50k, or 85k certificate (like those earned with Marriott Bonvoy credit cards or your annual choice benefit for hitting 75 nights) in your Bonvoy wallet, you will now be able to “top off” up to 15k more points from your Bonvoy points stash.

With the newly dynamic pricing in place with Bonvoy, it’s not uncommon to have a situation where an award prices out *just above* your certificate. Few things are more frustrating in Bonvoy-land than having a 35k certificate to use and finding a room that is 36k points.

That problem is now solved and the Marriott website (not the app yet) will simply offer to let you tack on 1,000 points and make the booking. In the event of cancellation, both the certificate and the extra points will be returned.

This is how it looks at checkout.

Suite Night Awards can still be applied as usual.

If you have any questions about how this works not answered above, you can consult the FAQ page on Marriott.

  1. Does anyone know if Marriott ever extends free night certificates? I’ve got 8 of them I need extended past their expiration in June and wondered if they’d let me extend them if I called in.
