mgm marriott bonvoy tier match status match

When I got the email from Marriott’s PR team, I was really hoping that I would be providing two updates: 1) I was hoping that they’d “seen the light” and would offer MGM Platinum members (which requires an insane 200,000 Tier Credits) Bonvoy Titanium or at *least* Platinum, since that is where useful Bonvoy benefits start (potential suite upgrades, free breakfast, guaranteed 4pm checkout at most properties)…. and 2) I was hoping that they had seen the light and would offer Bonvoy Platinum members (or even Titanium) a guaranteed 4pm or even a guaranteed 2pm checkout – not just subject to availability which is almost worthless since any hotel agent can just say no for any reason.

Well, neither of these things have happened. Benefits have been tweaked but not largely improved. I’ll go ahead and say what I’ve said before – this program largely only benefits the top tiers at both companies. Marriott Bonvoy Ambassadors ($23k and 100 nights in a year) and MGM Noir (Invite only tier above MGM Platinum) get real benefits worth talking about.

And it’s one sided, with the status match only working in one direction, from MGM to Bonvoy – and again with only Noir members of MGM getting a “real” status with Bonvoy.

Bonvoy Gold and Silver simply don’t have meaningful, guaranteed benefits – and that is all that any MGM member that isn’t “invite only” Noir level will get.

Here’s the note from Marriott:
