You’ll recall that last month, Hyatt announced that they would be changing the categories for several hundred hotels in the World of Hyatt program.
Those changes take effect on Tuesday, March 28th, meaning that Monday March 27th (tomorrow, if you are reading this on the day I’m posting) is you very last day to book at the current rates.
214 hotels will go up in category while 158 that will go down. However, the ones going up tend to be in the “that really stings” category.
Many Category 7’s will become Category 8’s, pushing them out of reach for the Cat 1-7 award certificates that Globalists receive after 60 nights. (Hint: I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t book with points or do a Points Advance now and attach the cert later if you haven’t earned it yet).
Any rooms already booked by tomorrow will not go up in price and any Points Advance reservations will likewise retain the booked rate.
And if you tend to use off-peak Category 1’s to grab extra nights towards Globalist, check if they are become a Category 2. Both local to me are moving up and I’ve booked a number of reservations into early next year where I could find off-peak days. I will say that the local Cat 1 Hyatt House has a nice jacuzzi, so I do really make some use of the room!

- When you book before March 28, your reservations will follow the current free night award chart found here.
- Reservations made on or after March 28 will follow the new free night award chart and incorporate the updates noted below.
- Existing reservations for nights on or after March 28 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category”
