The Platinum Card® from American Express Removes Shop Small from Bonus; Adds New Designs

The Platinum Card® from American Express was, for a very long time, offering an additional 10 to 15 points per dollar for 6 months depending on the offer the cardmember applied under. Resy offered the best deal with 15x on the Shop Small + Dining.

Now, they have removed the Shop Small component entirely and, even at Resy, are only offering 10x on dining. It still beats our affiliate offer, though now refer-a-friend is said to be showing up to 150,000 points (albeit without the 10x on dining for 6 months which could be an extra 125,000 points for heavy diners.

You can also now select a standard card design, or a new Platinum x Kehinde Wiley, or Platinum x Julie Mehretu design. Platinum x Kehinde Wiley, or Platinum x Julie Mehretu.

Hard pass on these designs for me…

Downgrading a Capital One Card?

Doctor of Credit points out that if you downgrade after your annual fee posts, you won’t get a refund nor will you keep the card benefits. You need to do this 60 days prior to the annual fee hitting. If you want to just close the card, no problem, that can still be done after the fee hits and you can get it reimbursed.
