Southwest Companion Pass with One Credit Card Bonus
The elevated “big spend” offers on the personal Southwest credit cards ended yesterday, and a new offer has come out that applies to all three cards.
The applicable cards are:
- Southwest Rewards Plus Credit Card ($69 annual fee), the
- Southwest Rewards Premier Credit Card (99 annual fee), and the
- Southwest Rewards Priority Credit Card ($149 annual fee).
The new bonus offer is:
- Get the Southwest Companion Pass through February 2022 + 30,000 points when you spend $5,000 within 3 months.
Comparing to Southwest Credit Card Previous Offers
If you spend a lot, the old offer was probably better. You got 80,000 Rapid Rewards points with $10,000 in spend within 9 months.
With the 2021 Companion Pass requiring just 100,000 earned qualifying Rapid Rewards points, that one card bonus got you 90% of the way there – and that Companion Pass would have been good until December of 2020.
But if you don’t spend $10,000 within 9 months, and plan to travel quite a bit in 2021 and the beginning of 2022, you can get a ton of value from this offer, which confers (if you meet the minimum spend this month) ~12 months of Companion Pass.
For sure, for a big spender, the extra 10 months of Companion Pass you’d have gotten with the previous offer was better.
But let’s say you don’t qualify for a Business credit card and don’t spend a ton. Since the current Chase rules only let you get one personal card at a time (although you can get one or even both Southwest business credit cards).
In this scenario you may simply never even qualify for Companion Pass. In that case, 12 months can provide a ton of savings you’d never otherwise get.
You can explore each card and benefits and learn how to apply at the following links:
- Southwest Rewards Plus Credit Card ($69 annual fee), the
- Southwest Rewards Premier Credit Card (99 annual fee), and the
- Southwest Rewards Priority Credit Card ($149 annual fee).
Each bump in annual fee gets you a bit more in the form of Rapid Rewards points at renewal and credits, but if you are purely gunning for Companion Pass, the $69 annual fee Southwest Rewards Plus Credit Card will do just fine.
