Drew at Travel is Free reports that this “deal” from a few weeks ago is back alive and kicking.
AA Web Specials
It’s important to bear in mind that these new “Web Specials” are non-changeable (whereas with traditional AA awards, you can change dates for free as long as the origin and destination don’t change, to another date within a year of the original ticketing date). You can still cancel for free within 24 hours.
Lots of routes are available, so instead of trying to find and list them all, I’ll just say that if you fly any routes regularly, pull up a calendar view like this:
Keep in mind that this calendar doesn’t represent non-stops. You’ll find some, but this bargain deal will often require less than spectacular connections.
The only downsides are that they are non-changeable (though you can still pay the $150 mileage redeposit fee, why would you for 5,000 miles?) and that you can’t book into premium cabins with the Web Specials.
If this causes you to run low on miles, here are credit cards that earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles. You can get 70,000 miles when you spend $4,000 in 3 months on the CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard
