The Turkish Miles&Smiles program, a transfer partner of Citi, Capital One and Bilt, is generally the very best program for booking Star Alliance awards (except for international awards with very high fuel surcharges.
You can book a domestic award on United (if saver space exists) for 7,500 miles and business class for 12,500 miles. One way to Europe is 45,000 miles plus taxes and fees (they do pass on carrier surcharges.
In a question asked and answered today in the MilesTalk Facebook Group about award cancellation / redeposit fees, everyone answered $25, since that was what it has been.
But Timothy S. commented it was $70. I went and looked at the Turkish site and – lo and behold – it’s now $70.
So beware as that is per ticket and can add up a lost faster than $25 a ticket can!
