As much as I get frustrated with Capital One Shopping, they sure can have some great deals. For those unfamiliar, you don’t need a Capital One card to use it and you earn rebates that can only be cashed out for a changing selection of gift cards. There can be tracking issues at times, but they also offer absolutely unbelievable deals and if you view a deal and don’t bite, they often send you a better deal by email within minutes. I’ve gotten deals like 45% off a car rental at Sixt and many like that. In fact I just got 30% back on a boat tour in Lake Como via TripAdvisor for a confirmed (it’s already in my account) rebate of over $130.

So this potential quadruple stack caught my eye today since it’s so crazy simple to get a nice amount of cash back on gift cards, including plain old physical Visa gift cards, with multiple stacks on today’s Deal of the Day – giftcards.com.

Here’s how the stack works:

1) If you are new to Capital One Shopping, use my referral link and you’ll get $80 in credit in your account after you both install the shopping extension and make a $10+ purchase within 60 days. OK, so that’s the first $80.

2) Here is the standard giftcards.com offer today:

  • 10% back: Dining, clothing and apparel, pets, auto services, gaming, and entertainment and experiences
  • 6% back: Visa gift cards, plus most other categories and select One4all multi-store gift cards
  • 3% back: Home improvement, gas, grocery, rideshare, meal delivery and fast food, Airbnb, Razor, and related One4all multi-store gift cards

You can often find discounted gift cards for brands, so I’m drawn here to the Visa gift cards. You can get 5% off up to three $100 Thank You Visa gift cards as you can see below. Promo code is ECO5.

OK, so now you have your 6% cash back activated, your $80 refer a friend credit if you are new, and 5% off the gift cards. Now, there is an almost $5 fee per gift card, so basically the 5% wipes that off and you still have the 6% back + referral bonus of $80. But that’s not all.

3) There were Chase Offers for up to $10, $25 or $50 max cashback that are still active. Hopefully you clicked on them when they were active. So that can stack up to another $50 off.

4) You still get your normal credit card cashback or points. I know none of you are getting less than 2%/2X on everyday purchases, so that’s another 2% on top.

5) Bonus Round: Increased Offers: Remember in the beginning of this article I mentioned that Capital One Shopping often sends you higher targeted offers when you don’t finish your purchase. I didn’t finish it and then got targeted for 7.5% on Visa gift cards (up to 12.5% on other gift cards), but I had someone send me their targeted offer for up to 22% with 13% on Visa gift cards!

You can buy a max of $2,000 in gift cards, so don’t get too crazy and screenshot everything as you go to be safe – the offer, the click, make sure the browser extension shows the elevated offer if you have one and click that (and screen shot it).

Exclusions and Refer a Friend terms below. Let me know what you do with this! And don’t forget the $80 referral bonus if you are new to Capital One Shopping.

The exclusion for gift card.com is specifically the Giftcard.com eGift which is their gift card to Giftcards.com and is excluded from online shopping reward partners. SO don’t be spooked by that.

Refer a Friend Terms:

The Refer-ee must install either the Shopping desktop or mobile extension in their primary browser with full permissions, and on a device in which the extension has never previously been installed. The Refer-ee must install the Shopping extension within 7 days of creating a Shopping User Account using a referral link. The Refer-ee must also make Qualifying Purchase(s) totaling at least $10 within 60 days of installing the extension. A Qualifying Purchase is a purchase via Capital One Shopping that earns Capital One Shopping Rewards. The referral bonus will be automatically applied to the relevant accounts within 30 days after the Referrer and Refer-ee have satisfied all requirements. Uninstalling the Shopping extension or changing its permissions at any time during the trial period will prevent both the Referrer and Refer-ee from receiving a referral bonus. To be eligible for this offer, both the Referrer and Refer-ee must be located in and reside in the United States.

Dave Grossman
I got "in the game" in 2003 and since then I've collected literally millions and millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I've flown around the world in first class seats that would cost $29,000 using frequent flyer miles and a few bucks in tax. And I've stayed in some of the finest hotels - all for free! Several years ago, I realized many of my friends actually thought I was paying for these!! So I started sharing my tips. It's long been a passion, but when I hosted a session on Miles and Points at the South by Southwest festival, my love of the game intensified and this blog was born. Since then, I've written my book, MilesTalk: Live Your Wildest Travel Dreams Using Miles and Points (2nd Edition) - (author profile), give seminars on miles and points all over the world, and occasionally write for publications such as Frommer's and Forbes Advisor.
